Background

Krefeld is a mid-level German industrial town. It has an industrial history of more than 400 years. The city had been evolving over the years and had been able to attract investment from Japanese and Chinese companies.

However, they wanted to be prepared for the future by keeping the city relevant for startups and an attractive destination for other high potential countries, such as, India.

The Ask

The client wanted to identify the potential for Indian businesses to invest in Krefeld – nature of companies and the nature of investments.

Engagement Approach

This included a study of the profile of the town – identifying comparative advantages, legacy strengths as well as possible competitive differentiators for Indian companies.

This was supported by an expansive analysis of the Indian corporate sector. This led to the identification of possible target companies – a mix of industries, revenue size and locations.

This was further validated through extensive primary conversations with various industry bodies to pick up real market intelligence and sentiment around the proposition to invest in a German city. Impact – The final deliverable included a package to understand the Indian business landscape, the market entry strategy, and an execution roadmap.
